This research is about the Digestive System. There are many important things to know about the Digestive System, for example: how it functions, what can happen, diseases and much more to learn I hope you enjoy our presentation. The parts to the Digestive System are: the esophagus , stomach, small intestine, large intestine, colon and the rectum. The Digetive System is located in the upper half of the body.

Major Organs

Labeled Diagram of Human Digestive System
  • Esophagus-it passes through the esophagus, then to 2 spincters the remaining
  • Stomach-the stomach is the organ that conducts the mammoth task of breaking down food. It recives the ingested food from the stomach and mixes it with gastred juices to further break it down.
  • Small intestine- Also known as the small bowel, the small intestine is the longest section of the digetive track. However,it is called the small intestine because it has a small diameter then the large intestine. The main purpose of the small intestine is to absorb nutrients from the food durind digetion. It is made up out of 3 parts, the doedum, jejunum, and the iluem.
  • Large intestine- also know as the large bowel, the large intestine is a highly speciulized organ of the digestive system. It's main function is to absorb the remaining water from the indigestible food matter and passed unwanted waste. The large intestine is divided up into 3 parts - cecum, colon and rectum.
  • Colon-the main function of the colon is to extract all water and salts from the waste matter before elliminating it from the body.
  • Rectum- a 8 inch chamber that connects to the anal canna. The main function is to recevie feces or waste matter from the colon act as a ytemparary sight to store the feces till it is evacuated. It sends signals to the brain, which it turns decides wether the fecal matter can be evacuated.

System Functions

The digestive system's purpose is to break down food into smaller pieces so the body can build and provide cells food and energy.
Also, it is a series of organs that helps get rid of waste and gives nutrients to cells.
The digestive system works like this; first, the teeth grind and mash the food, then, the saliva starts the chemical breakdown and turns into a big wad called a bolus, then goes down the esophagus, next, it goes into the stomach where it turns into a dark colored liquid, then, it heads towards the small intestine which also goes to the passing capillaries to the cells, after that, it goes into the large intestine, which leads into the colon, then finally, goes to the rectum/anus which is where the pee and poop comes out. Also the blood carries the nutrients from the food to the capillaries.

Here are some diseases that can happen in the digestive system: Esophagus, esophageal diverticula.A espophageal diverticula is a pouch that protrudes outward in a weak porportion of the esopophageal linning. This pocket like structure can apper anywhere in the esopophageal linning between the throat and stomach; Stomach, ulcers; Small intestine, intestinal obstruction; Colon ,colon cancer; Liver, fatty liver disease; Gallbladder, gallstones; Pancreas, pancreatits; Rectum, hemmorhoids; Other Crohn's disease- infects mostly the lower intestine of colon it causes the colon to be inflamed and irritated. When that happens, you may feel sick in the area just below the stomach called the abdomen.Sometimes, you feel that you have to go to the bathroom and have a bowel movement. This bowel movement is very soft and liquidy and is known as diarrhea.

Staying Healthy

How can you keep your digestive system healthy? well here is how. You should eat lots of food with enzymes. some foods are pineapples, nuts, fruit juice and lots of veggies. also, eat lots of raw but rich foods such as fish and meat.

Other Interesting Information

Ever keep wondering how your stomach growls? well, it starts by sending air waves and says,"hey brain! i need to digest but i'm empty!' so the brain thinks that the stomach is low on energy. Then, if you see or even smell food, your stomach's muscles works but it is still empty which gives a vibration making your stomach growl. Now, here is another fun fact. Also did you know at birth we have about 10,000 taste buds omthe surface of the tounge,in the throat, and on the roof of the mouth. About 11 liters of fluid digestive circulated around your digestive system. Next fact, did you know the stomach lining is replaced continuosly, and it's completly replaced approximately every 5-10 days. Lastly, on average 1 to1.5 liters of saliva is secreated into the human mouth every day.
